Nemanja Nikolic, PIANIST

 “Beauty will save the world.”
Our newest guest, Nemanja Nikolić, an amazing young pianist, allowed us to play with his personal style through a set of exciting photos for the Intro-People section.

The real movie atmosphere is in the apartment of the Moscow hotel in Belgrade downtown. Nemanja is on time, but we are late. Finally, we meet each other and start with a conversation in a great spirit.

When did you realize for the first time that the clothes you wear are actually part of your personality?

I was in the third grade of elementary school, and it was the first big competition where I participated. My piano teacher and I have been preparing for this competition for months. She gave me classes during the winter holidays in a closed school. When it came time for the competition, we worried about what to wear. At the idea of the professor and my mother, my mother sewed a miniature and absolutely unique waistcoat, just for the competition.

Many years later, my first and significant performance at Kolarac, our largest and the only musical temple we have, also took place in a similar clothing combination, a handmade waistcoat. Today, I enjoy wearing them. For me, they are a meaningful part of my personality and style identity.

Who influenced you the most, when it’s to a style?

The man who definitely impresses me the most is Max Raabe. He is a German singer who, with his orchestra of 13 members, performs a repertoire of only the 20s and 30s of the 20. century. They are a real example of the very well-known Mayan school scene.
Everything related to that period intrigues me. From music, through styling, clothing, cars, fashion, manners, behavior, lifestyle, record culture… etc.
A month ago, I was at their concert in Berlin, where they brought me back to that period and moved me out of the present so much that until 3 am after the show, I was full of the excitements and emotions they conveyed to me.

What is the base of your style today?

In my opinion, the basis of any good styling is a simple and classy shirt.
It is a magical piece of clothes and can be transformed from a daily combination to an elegant evening choice, or for any other occasion.

You just need to add buttons for cuffs and a butterfly to that same shirt, and you can see the miracle of transformation to a pretty elegant tone.

What’s the favorite piece in your wardrobe?

Uffff, this is the hardest question for me… I can’t decide. I like the small details in the wardrobe.
Cufflinks, thread, and stitch around the buttonholes on the coat. Handkerchiefs in a jacket. Pocket watches that adorn vests.
Butterfly bows, of course, those that tie.
But if I had to decide, then it would be a hat and only a half-cylinder that I love to wear.
I have 3 of them in different colors.
